Prokofiev – Symphony No. 5
The Easter Festival is an internationally renowned event among classical music lovers, traditionally opened in Moscow on Easter Sunday. Each year the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and its musical director Valery Gergiev travel across Russia - for the past 10 years now! In today’s concert, Gergiev and his men perform Sergei Prokofiev’s ‘Symphony No.5, Op. 100’. This composition, written during the darkest days of World War II, was Prokofiev’s “hymn to free and happy Man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit”.
