Beethoven - Piano Concerto No. 4
,,This concerto is the most admirable, singular, artistic and complex Beethoven concerto ever". Clearly, the Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung got quite a favourable impression of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto from the public premiere in Vienna in December 1808. A year before, Beethoven had already played the piece at the house of his patron Franz Joseph Maximilian von Lobkowitz, together with his Fourth Symphony and the Corolian Overture. In spite of his patron and the critics’ favourable opinions, audiences and pianists were not fond of Beethoven’s latest. After two performances the piece was largely forgotten about. Only when Felix Mendelssohn put it onto the programme for one of his London concerts did the piece regain some attention.
